Have you ever tried to use coconut oil in a smoothie, only to have it all end up at the top when you're done? What happened?[/size] [size=9]A lot of smoothie recipes don't tell you this. They say "coconut oil" but never tell you the real deal on how to work with this amazing product.
Here's the trick:
First, you need to warm the coconut oil up enough to turn it into a liquid. You can do this a few ways.
Put the coconut oil for a few minutes in the dehydrator in a cup at 115 degrees until it becomes a liquid.
You can also heat up some water and pour it right on the coconut oil if it's going into a smoothie. Make sure to mix it up with a fork to get it to emulsify.
The other way is to use a two cup method like a double boiler. Pour hot water into a cup, then put another cup on top of the bottom one that fits snugly and put your coconut oil in the top cup. The heat will melt the coconut oil to a liquid.
Now that you have your liquid you need to blend it with water or your other liquid in your smoothie base before you add anything else.
