ironically, we tend to crave the very foods we are most allergic to. You're getting all the calories portein and other nutrients you need, so why this urge? because these allergens irritate the intestinal mucosae, which can stimulate the production of serotonin, an enzyme that is produced in the gut, but that acts on the brain. and serotonin gives us a feeling of well-being or pleasure.
intolerance for a certain food (or foods) may be genetic - that is, build into our genes. or as is common, it may be that you were given too much of a particular food when you were too young, before your gastrointestinal system was equiped to process it. consequently, powerful antibodies developed against it. that's why it's important to breast-feed babies and not give them solid food before they are physicallly ready for it.
