| Boron provides hydroxyl groups vital to the synthesizing of certain steroid hormones, particularly those necessary for the metabolism of calcium, magnesium, manganese, and phosphorus in the bone and for muscle growth. Much fanfare has accompanied the use of boron – along with calcium, magnesium, manganese, silica, and vitamin D – to prevent osteoporosis or to cope with it.
So far as preventing or coping with osteoporosis, biochemists generally agree that boron may slow down bone loss in postmenopausal women. Boron’s role is twofold: it helps the body retain dietary calcium and it can increase the levels of natural oestrogen.
(Dr. Hunt) suspects that the body need boron to synthesize oestrogen, vitamin D, and other steroid hormones. And it m also protect these hormone against rapid breakdown.
Boron seems to help bone absorption when there is insufficient vitamin D intake through food and supplements and through exposure to sunlight. | |
